Julian Marshall: caller<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Julian Marshall fell in love with the square dance<\/em> in 2014, while visiting the Swannanoa Gathering in North Carolina and the Clifftop Festival in West Virginia. He immediately decided to establish these dances at the center of his Old Time community in Richmond, London. Since he didn't know any callers<\/em> At the time, he decided to learn on his own and visited some callers<\/em> dance schools across the United States to study with them and learn directly from the source. Since then, he has "called" dances in New Orleans, New York, Seattle, Portland, and Asheville, as well as in London and throughout the United Kingdom. He "called" the very first square dance<\/em> to Herbe Bleue in 2022 and returned in 2023 and 2024.r at an oldtime ball (square dance), whether on the dance floor or on the stage.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Annick Odom (double bass)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Annick Odom is a bassist, quadrille dancer, fiddler, and ballad singer rooted in the ancient traditions of Appalachia. Born and raised in Morgantown, West Virginia, Annick brings a deep sense of place and history to her work, drawing inspiration from Appalachian music, dance, and storytelling practices. She has played and \u201ccalled\u201d or \u201cbarked\u201d square dances<\/em> across the United States and Europe and is passionate about creating inclusive and joyful dance spaces where everyone feels welcome. Beyond the dance hall, she is deeply engaged in the broader old-time community as a performer, teacher, and tradition-bearer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Sylvain Brunerie (fiddle)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Discovering bluegrass and oldtime music via the mandolin in the digital age, Sylvain quickly converted to the fiddle (violin) after immersing himself in the intoxicating and warm sound of oldtime jams. He fell headfirst into this niche and went back to the roots while learning from his contemporaries in Europe and the United States, and notably shared this passion with his companions in Pig Society. Not a dancer for a penny, he nevertheless loves more than anything to participate in an oldtime ball (square dance), whether on the dance floor or on the stage.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Tilmann Volz (guitar)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Tilmann Volz is a singer, guitarist and violinist passionate about traditional North American music. "Fallen" into bluegrass first, he is now just as interested in old-time, especially since a solo trip to the Appalachians (Asheville) in the fall of 2022 which marked the beginning of an assiduous apprenticeship of the violin. A fervent organizer of jams, which he co-organizes with several friends in Nantes, he will be happy to play for this ball to spread the old-time virus!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
