Tanasi creates a rich, globally inspired mountain sound, blending the soulful echoes of roots artists from around the planet into music that is both timeless and deeply personal. Tanasi draws on the music they've learned through their travels, collaborating with musicians from around the world and revisiting its sounds through their Appalachian lens, to bring them back home.
Their songs find their way to the depths of your heart, resonating with undeniable warmth and authenticity.
Tanasi is a collaboration of renowned musicians from Asheville, North Carolina, featuring the tight, sister-like harmonies of MerleFest award-winning songwriter Anya Hinkle and Mary Lucey (Biscuit Burners, Uncle Earl), with the inimitable dobro music of Billy Cardine, known worldwide for his distinctive voice on all things slide, of whom Jerry Douglas says, "I couldn't choose a better example of the instrument's possibilities."
Tanasi is joined by special guest Finn McGill, a master of various fiddle styles, including Irish, Brazilian, improvisational jazz, and bluegrass and old-time Appalachian. A composer, Magill is also a Fulbright scholar, an NPR-featured fiddler, and a TEDx speaker.
The members of Tanasi have toured worldwide, from Japan to India, Nepal to Bali, Brazil to Europe, Hawaii to the US and Canada, playing festivals such as Bonnaroo, Rockygrass, and MerleFest, and on stages including the Ryman Auditorium, the Kennedy Center, and Carnegie Hall. Tanasi made a splash in 2024 at the Earl Scruggs Music Festival, Planet Bluegrass' FallGrass, and the Durango Bluegrass Meltdown. They will release their debut album in the summer of 2025. Tanasi's worldgrass sound is a vibrant celebration of the power of music to unite, transcending cultural boundaries to reveal the shared rhythms of our humanity. With every note, they remind us that what connects us is far greater than what separates us.
