This workshop will explore the role of the violin in bluegrass: typical licks and phrasing, the basics of improvisation, double stops and rhythmic bowing, chord concepts, and backing tracks. Everything will be built around songs typical of this style. This workshop is open to all participants, regardless of skill level, with some basic knowledge of open strings and first position.
Louisiane Beck graduated from the Grenoble Regional Conservatory (CRR) with a degree in classical violin. Upon arriving in Paris in 2013, she fell in love with traditional music, developing several projects (folk, klezmer, Irish). She entered the bluegrass and old-time scene in 2016 by joining the Sawmill Sessions network. Since then, she has honed her skills through jam sessions and festivals in France and the United States. Today, she is a multi-instrumentalist and singer involved in various projects: she recorded the first album for Salmon & the Laundry Bear, participates in several projects (Dear A, Sweet Potat'r Serenaders), and performs in illustrated concerts with her duo Rosy Posy. She also leads a monthly Parisian old-time and bluegrass jam session with Henri Colombat and has continued to develop her musical skills ever since.
Passionate about oral tradition and group pedagogy, and a graduate of the DUMI (University Diploma in Music Intervention), she works as a music facilitator in schools, where she leads orchestral workshops with the Philharmonie de Paris or creates collaborative pieces using strings, vocals, or body percussion. She is currently furthering her studies in improvisation and arrangement at the Didier Lockwood Music Center.
